Himalayan Hub — Privacy Policy
Effective Date: April 22, 2026 Last Updated: April 22, 2026
Welcome to Himalayan Hub, a community-sourced directory operated by HimalayanHub, LLC ("Himalayan Hub", "we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Himalayan Hub app or website, what we do with it, and the choices you have. If you have any questions, you can always reach us at legal@himalayanhub.co.
By using Himalayan Hub, you accept the practices described below.
What We Collect
We keep what we collect to a minimum and only gather what we need to run the service.
- Account information. When you sign up with Google, Facebook, Apple, or an email address, we receive your email and, if you provide it, your name, profile photo, and phone number. For email/password accounts, your password is securely hashed by our authentication provider — we never see it.
- Your home location. We store the city and country you select (or allow us to detect) so we can show you nearby businesses and tailor search results.
- Your precise location, when you ask for it. When you use "Near Me", open the map, or look for nearby deals, we use your device location for that query only. We do not keep a log of your movements, and we never track you in the background.
- What you create. Business listings, reviews, ratings, claim documents, deal information, and any images you upload.
- Deal redemptions. When you redeem a deal, we record that redemption so the business owner can confirm it.
- Push tokens. If you enable notifications, we store the token your device gives us so we can send you alerts.
- Basic usage information. We track a small set of product events (sign-ins, searches, business views, review and deal activity) to understand how the app is used and to improve it.
- Technical information. Network identifiers such as IP address, device and operating system details, and crash diagnostics if we have those enabled.
We do not collect contact lists, calendars, microphone input, or background location. We do not use advertising trackers, session replay, or fingerprinting.
How We Use Your Information
We use what we collect to:
- sign you in and keep your account safe;
- show you the directory, search results, and the map;
- display and moderate the content you post;
- verify business ownership when you submit a claim;
- issue and validate single-use deal redemption codes;
- send you the alerts you opt into (new businesses near you, reviews of your business);
- prevent fraud, abuse, spam, and security issues;
- respond to your messages and legal requests; and
- measure and improve the product.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use what you post to train AI models.
What's Public on Himalayan Hub
Some of what you do on Himalayan Hub is meant to be seen by others:
- Business listings, including the name, address, contact details, photos, hours, and category.
- Reviews and ratings, along with your display name and avatar — unless you mark the review as anonymous, in which case your identity is suppressed in the app.
- Active deals and their terms.
- Aggregate counts (average rating, number of reviews, view count).
Your email, phone number, and home location are private and never shown publicly.
Please don't post anything you wouldn't want to be public. Once something is shared, other people may see, screenshot, or save it.
Who We Share Information With
Himalayan Hub works with a small number of service providers who help us run the app. They only handle data on our instructions and under written data-processing agreements. These include:
- Our database, authentication, and storage provider, which runs the back-end that stores your account and your content.
- Google, for sign-in, maps, and address look-ups.
- Meta (Facebook), if you choose Facebook sign-in.
- Apple, for Sign in with Apple and for delivering push notifications on iOS.
- Google, for delivering push notifications on Android.
- A product-analytics provider, which helps us understand how the app is used.
- An email-delivery provider, for transactional emails such as email verification and password reset.
- A push-delivery intermediary, which routes push notifications to the right device.
We may also share information when the law requires it (for example, a valid court order), to protect Himalayan Hub or its users, or if we're involved in a merger or acquisition (we'll tell you if that happens).
A current list of our service providers, including their locations and safeguards, is available on written request to legal@himalayanhub.co.
International Transfers
Himalayan Hub is operated from the United States, and our service providers operate around the world. If you're in the EU, UK, or Switzerland, we transfer your data using Standard Contractual Clauses and similar mechanisms approved by regulators, together with encryption in transit and at rest.
How Long We Keep Your Data
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. Things we retain on a shorter schedule or handle differently:
- Analytics events are kept for 24 months.
- Technical and error logs are kept for 30–90 days.
- Backups roll off within 30 days.
- Business claim records and proof documents are kept for 24 months after we decide the claim, unless a dispute is pending.
When you delete your account (Profile → Settings → Delete Account), we remove your profile, uploaded images, deals, and push tokens. Your reviews may remain visible in their anonymized form so that other users can still see the content they were reading; the reference to your identity is removed. Backups are purged within 30 days.
Your Rights and Choices
No matter where you live, you can:
- Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct anything that's wrong (most of it is editable directly in your profile).
- Delete your account and your data at any time from inside the app.
- Export your data in a portable format (JSON or CSV).
- Withdraw a permission (for example, turn off location or notifications in your device settings).
- Contact us or complain to your local data-protection authority.
If you're in California, the EU, the UK, India, Nepal, or another region with specific privacy laws, you have the additional statutory rights under those laws, including the right to restrict processing, object to certain uses, and lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. To exercise any right, email legal@himalayanhub.co with the subject "Privacy Request". We respond within 30 days, and free of charge for reasonable requests.
We do not sell your information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is no CCPA sale/share opt-out to exercise.
How We Protect Your Information
We use industry-standard safeguards to keep your data safe:
- Encryption in transit for everything between your device and our servers.
- Salted and hashed passwords, handled by our authentication provider. We never see cleartext passwords.
- Access controls so you can only read your own account data, and so administrators see only what they need to.
- Server-side protection of third-party API keys, which are never shipped to the app.
- A small, named administrator allowlist, with periodic access reviews.
- Encrypted session storage on your device.
No system is perfectly secure. If we ever experience a data breach, we'll notify the relevant authorities and affected users as required by law.
Children
Himalayan Hub isn't designed for children. You must be at least 13 (United States), 16 (European Economic Area, UK, or Switzerland, unless a lower age applies in your country), or 18 (India) to use the service. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children below those ages. If you believe a child has created an account, email legal@himalayanhub.co with the subject "Child Account — Takedown Request" and we'll disable it and delete the data.
Cookies and Local Storage
Because Himalayan Hub is primarily a mobile app, we don't use advertising cookies. We do use:
- a first-party session store on your device to keep you signed in;
- a device-level identifier from our analytics provider; and
- identifiers used by the map and push-delivery providers to deliver their services.
Third-party cookies may be set by Google, Meta, or Apple during their own sign-in flows; those are governed by their respective policies.
Changes to This Policy
We'll update this policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top shows the latest version. If we make a material change (for example, to the categories of data we collect, the ways we use it, or the providers we rely on), we'll let you know at least 30 days in advance through an in-app notice, an email, or a banner on the sign-in screen. If you don't agree, you can delete your account at any time.
